About Us

I have one son in his first year of middle school. He will be called John on this blog. I work from home, so I have the flexibility to manage homeschooling. My husband is a UK citizen currently residing in England while we await the immigration process. He will assist with our homeschooling via the internet until he is able to join us permanently.

John has been in public school since Kindergarten. When he was in the 4th grade, we moved and transfered schools. Things have gone steadily downhill since then. I am terribly disappointed with the school district and its administration.

My son has been in GT (gifted and talented) and AP (advanced placement) courses. He has a lot of potential and plans to someday attend Oxford University. Because of the poorly administered schools here, I believe the quality of John’s education is suffering.

The decision to remove my son from public school and begin homeschooling is not one that I have taken lightly. I have thought long and hard about it, researched the law, and given the public school all the chances that I am willing to give. I decided to ride this year out until the Christmas break before making a final decision.

Christmas break has arrived and my decision is made. I will send a letter of withdrawal to the public school, and Lottie’s Texas Homeschool will begin classes on January 5, 2009.

I will use this blog to record our progress, outline assignments and lessons and basically keep myself organized. It’s a work in progress and will likely undergo many changes in the weeks to come.

We are atheist, in that we do not believe in the existence of gods/deities. We support religious freedom and have no desire to stop others from worshiping as they choose. I am tolerant of the religious choices of others so far as they do not infringe on the rights and freedoms of anyone else. Mutual respect is key.

Thank you for following along. I appreciate feedback, suggestions and any tips you can offer. This is the beginning of a new adventure for our family and I’ll take all the support I can get.
